PHNOM PENH, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Two people, one Australian man and one Cambodian soldier, were killed and three others got wounded in an explosion at a shooting range in west Cambodia's Kampong Speu province on Thursday.
Kampong Speu Provincial Governor Vy Samnang said the incident happened at the shooting range within a military training base when the victims accidentally spotted a war-left Russia-made landmine and one of them picked it up, triggering an explosion.
"One Australian man and one Cambodian soldier were killed, as three others, one Australian man and two Cambodian soldiers, got injured in the explosion," he told Xinhua, adding that the two Australian nationals were bomb experts and they visited the shooting range as tourists.
The military training base, better known as the "ACO" armoured vehicle base, is located in Phnom Sruoch district, some 70 km west of capital Phnom Penh, and the shooting range inside it is used by law enforcement groups for training and practice.
