PARIS, June 4 (Xinhua) -- French police on Monday began to clear out two more illegal migrant campsites in Paris, the country's latest attempt to deal with an influx of refugees which began about three years ago.
The Paris police department said in a statement that they were in the process of clearing out an illegal refugee campsite at the Porte des Poissonniers in northeast Paris and another one next to the city's Canal Saint-Martin.
The move came less than a week after the police took a similar operation to evacuate more than 1,000 migrants, mainly from Somalia, Sudan and Eritrea, from the largest illegal refugee campsite "Millenaire," also in the capital's northeast.
Europe has faced a refugee crisis since an increasing number of people arrived in the region following wars and conflicts in mainly Syria and Libya. According to figures of the United Nations, there was over a million arrivals by sea in 2015.
