LONDON, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho gave a downbeat press conference on Friday ahead of his side's key Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday in which he admitted there were 'many' reasons for his side's poor form.
United go into the game with just one win from their five home matches so far this season and a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The poor form and stories of poor relations between Mourinho and some players, such as Paul Pogba has even led to speculation that failure to win on Saturday could see Mourinho sacked and replaced by former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane.
When asked why his team were struggling, Mourinho replied "for many different reasons," although he failed to say what they were in a conference which lasted for just three minutes and had just five questions.
The Portuguese coach admitted that his side's home form was not good enough, but insisted there was time to turn things around.
"At the beginning of October, you look at tables around Europe and in many of the leagues, the tables don't reflect what is going to happen in a few months or even at the end of the season," he said, trying to draw positives from the season.
"Only one defeat at home all season...Only one defeat in the last seven matches. But no victories at home in the past three matches - three draws."
"We are in the position where we can do much better than that. To do that we need points, points that we lost especially in the last two Premier League matches, with one point out of six," said Mourinho, who warned that Newcastle, who only have 2 points, would be tough opposition.
"The results they had against the top teams didn't get them points yet this season but gave them very close results and difficult matches for the opposition. We expect a difficult match," he concluded.
