SAO PAULO, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 12 people were killed and 11 others injured when a bus carrying university students collided with a truck in Brazil's Sao Paulo state, a fire department spokesperson said Friday.
The crash occurred around midnight Thursday on SP-355 highway in the municipality of Nuporanga, part of the Ribeirao Preto metropolitan area, a key agricultural hub in southeastern Brazil.
The bus had 29 passengers on board, most of them students from the University of Franca (Unifran), a private institution in the city of Franca.
Both drivers survived the collision.
Investigators said the crash was head-on and occurred after the truck made a sudden maneuver. The bus was traveling from Franca to Sao Joaquim da Barra, also in the Ribeirao Preto metropolitan area. ■
