RIYADH, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabian air forces intercepted on Thursday a ballistic missile fired from Yemen towards border city Jazan, Al Arabiya local news reported.
The spokesperson of the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi militias in Yemen, Turki al-Maliki, said that the missile was shot from Yemeni city Saada at around 1:58 a.m. local time.
He said that the missile was destroyed, and some shrapnel and debris fell on residential areas, but no injuries were reported.
The spokesperson has been accusing the Houthis of intentionally targeting civilian areas through frequent missile attacks, mainly fired at border cities.
He also has been blaming Iran for destabilizing Yemen by assisting the Houthi rebels through delivering weapons and missiles.
The Saudi-led coalition has been fighting the Houthis in Yemen for over three years in support of the exiled Yemeni government.
