SYDNEY, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- A man has received a severe shark bite on Monday evening while fishing off Australia's Northeastern Coast, becoming the third shark victim in the area in as many weeks.
The 65-year-old man is in a stable condition in hospital after he was bitten on the shoulder.
"We had a good chat to the gentlemen and he stated that he caught a large reef shark (and) as he went to pull it on board it turned and bit him on the upper arm," Queensland Ambulance Service Rockhampton operations supervisor Brad Miers told local media.
"Despite a large wound to his upper arm, he is in a remarkable condition - very joyful."
Last month a woman and a young girl were both left in critical conditions after shark attacks which occurred within 24 hours of each other and within the same harbour area.
Those attacks led to a drum line baiting operation which resulted in the deaths of five sharks. Enditem
